About Area

Cebu City, the Queen City of the South, and its outlying areas comprising Metro Cebu, including Mandaue and Lapu Lapu Cities, constitutes the fastest growing metropolis south of the capital and home to a thriving shipping and ICT industry.

Despite its relative lack of resources, both Cebu City and Province, bank on the strategic centrality of their location and their extensive experience with maritime industries and shipbuilding. Most of the developments were initially spurred by the Cebu International Port straddling Cebu and Mandaue Cities, and the Mactan Export Processing Zone in Lapu Lapu City. Heavy industries like shipbuilding in Balamban, Cebu, continue to be the economic mover in the eastern part of the province.

However, Cebu heavily diversified into the ICT sector with Ayala's Cebu Business Park and Cebu I.T. Park (formerly Asiatown IT Park), built on top of the former Lahug Airport, are prime movers of the industry and serve as main locators. Both hosts the company's Ayala Malls development, pioneering Ayala Center Cebu and the under construction Central Bloc in Cebu I.T. Park.

SMDC also built three of their largest Visayas malls, SM City Cebu, SM Seaside City, and SM Consolacion, here, with Robinsons' Gokongwei family catching up to the developments in their hometown by developing Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
